Kent on Thurs.

Liz and I had a fairly good visit with Kent.  He was more alert than yesterday.  While we were there, Katie, the residential care-giver, was in the room telling us about all her animals she has at home.  She is considering bringing in her male duck to visit the foster home residents some day.  Kent seemed very interested in hearing about how the duck became a very tamed pet.  I want to see her duck and at a later time, her miniature goats too.

I liked seeing Kent so responsive.  He was even making jokes.  Mostly he uses facial expressions with just a few words.  He still has beautiful blue eyes and today I go to see them wide open.

All for now.  Liz and I are dining out with some friends from Corvallis.

Thank you for all your good thoughts.

Update on Kent for Tues., June 26th

Kent seemed to enjoy pictures of butterflies in a book from his sister that Liz was showing him.  He only seemed semi-alert today.  He wanted us to do something with his feet, but we couldn't understand what.

I was pleased that Hospice had sent in a person to clip Kent's long toe nails.  At least it cut off some of the fungus.  I am impressed with the many helpers that Lumina Hospice has available.

It must be frustrating for Kent not to have his words understood.  Sad.

Update Mon., June 25th

This afternoon, a harp player played for Kent for about a half hour.  She works for Hospice and plays to people who are dying.  Kent was responding to the music, varying from listening and watching the harpist to snoring loudly with his mouth wide open.  Sometimes he sounded like he was talking, but the words weren't recognizable.  I wondered if he was confused about where he was and thought he was in a kind of heaven with musical angels.

He seems to be comfortable, except he twitches his feet a lot and pulls at different material.  He likes feeling the ridges on a crocheted blanket and the fur on a toy monkey I brought him.

I read him the Aesop's Fable about the wolf in sheep's clothing.  He laughed at the end.

That's all I know.

Updates on Kent

Sat., Jun 23rd — Kent was not as alert as yesterday.  I was told he ate some breakfast, but no lunch.  I fed him a bit of supper, but the meat sauce was making him choke, so he mostly drank some nutritional chocolate flavored drink.  We listened to some Pink Martini and then he started getting sleepy.  By the time I left, he was snoring away.  He wasn’t even half as alert as yesterday.  There are so many things wrong that I haven't yet decided whether to post them or not.

Importantly, Kent shows no signs of being in pain and seems peaceful except when someone tries to move him without slowly explaining what they are doing.
